I'm an Arizona Girl. I can't say that I don't love the Mountains of Utah or Colorado, or that I don't miss the perfect white beaches of Northern Florida, but the desert is a different kind of beautiful that I never want to leave.

'Come Follow Me' Simple ASL
I have gotten requests to put together ASL for "Come Follow Me" Hymn 116.
Sorry it took me so long. It was out of my plans and I've been having a lot of computer problems. I think our laptop might be dying soon :(
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I am teaching the ASL for this song to my primary also and I was trying so hard to mimic the sign language from the church website which seemed a little complicated. An answer to prayer... :-)
One question, do you plan to teach the sign language the second week, after teaching it from churches idea with footsteps? Just wondering if there is a way to teach both ideas. I had thought to use idea from church the first week and then teach sign language the next. but if you think it would work to teach the sign along with the footprints let me know. It just seems too much for one week.
I was thinking I might put the footsteps up and teach them at the same time as the signs. The footsteps are a good concept. Only the younger children can't read well enough to learn the song with only them. Thanks for commenting.
I found this link on sugardoodle which shows a little picture with each footstep. I am going to use this and teach the sign as we go. I think it will work. I like the visual of the signing you taught. It substitutes a physical picture so well. I like to use variety, not always teaching with a picture visual, but I liked the little visual on the footprints I linked because it gives that little bit for the jr. even if is small, when they are looking for something to relate the words to this helps. http://www.sugardoodle.info/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6290
Thanks again for the video. I know it took time and I have been going over and over it and now have it ready for tomorrow. You are an angel. Heh heh! And...are you teaching any other verses sign language with this also? Ha. As if we haven't asked enough already. But I think this song with signing for even the program would be nice. I am still contemplating teaching any other verses. The others seem so hard conceptually and word wise.
This is WONDERFUL! Thank you very much. I was having some trouble researching the signs and choosing which ones to use so as not to cram too many in. May I make one small suggestion? Either while you teach specify which hand does what and which way a sign goes, do the signs backwards yourself, or make a mirror video so that those watching it do the signs correctly? It would help, I think. But nonetheless, thanks a lot!!!
Wooo-hoooo! I am SO glad that you did this! After spending literally DAYS putting signs together for I Know My Savior Loves me...I was very reluctant to do that again...Now I don't have to. You just made my day. Thanks!
Just wanted to say thanks for posting this! I was getting so discouraged that I couldn't do the sign language from the church video and didn't even know where to begin to teach it to the children. I was so relieved to come across your blog!
I'm teaching come follow me in August, since I was out of town for July. Thank you so much. I was wondering if you were willing to make a simple ASL for verse 4. sueellenhafen@yahoo.com
I just stumbled upon this post but can't open the video. I realize its 5 years old but I'm desperately trying to learn how to sign Come follow me for our primary program in two weeks. When I read "simple", I though oh an answer to my prayers. Please let me know if you still have the video or can help me. Thank you!!! americaririe@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you! You just saved me a very long night of trying to learn & condense the lds.org ASL version. This is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I also love the chorus for Follow the Prophet.
